The Iraq War

Today's Question: Can the U.S. win the Iraq War?

The U.S. won the Iraq war in April 2003, when U.S. troops defeated the Iraqi Army and took Baghdad. There since has not been an Iraq War. There is no opposing nation, government, or Army. There is not even a Guerrilla War. There is only chaos caused by ethnic and religious factions, complicated by occupying U.S. troops attempting to police Iraq. There hasn't been sufficient U.S., or sufficiently capable Iraqi forces to establish law and order in Iraq since the U.S. won the Iraq war.

Iraq is about the size of California with a population comparable to that of Canada. It would require upwards of 300,000 in U.S. forces to establish and maintain security in Iraq. The Iraqi police, and the reconstituted Iraqi Army, are too divided by sectarian tribal and ethnic loyalties to be effective in policing Iraq. Most U.S. troops who have served, or are serving, in Iraq do not think that their sacrifices have been, or will be, worth while in actually accomplishing their missions there. They think the Iraqis should sort out their own problems and that our troops should come home now, almost four years after already winning the Iraq War.

The Search For Extraterrestial Life

Today's Question: Is There Intelligent Life Beyond Earth?

A recent attempt by ABC News to communicate with intelligent extra terrestial life failed when vice president Cheney asserted that the withdrawal of British troops from Iraq, while US troops and casualties are increasing there, is good news for the US -- because it shows, "There are parts of Iraq where things are going well," thus confirming that there is no intelligent life on Planet Cheney.
